Notes
Above average audience recording with lots of talking. Seems like it should be trackable to 2 discs, but the long Iko Iko "messes" things up.

I’ve always considered myself a Grateful Dead fan not a Deadhead. Why? read some of these nasty negative comments …Jerry was dying in front of our eyes and playing the best he could and you have these morons posting all these criticisms, 1995 was Jerry’s good bye tour we didn’t know it yet but I think he did .

Sorry. Guess I've been looking for disasters and finally found one. This is a really bad show and a poor recording. Much of the time there is little music evident and Jerry doesn't even seem to play much. If you think this is a good show, listen to almost any show from the 60s or 70s then flip to this. It is sad and embarrassing. Not to slam the Dead, but any listener's time can be better spent, unless you need to find a disaster.

THe only real spark happening at this show was somewhere in the Sugaree, besides that, a little on the depressing side, we all tried, tho, right? Ramble on Rose and BT Wind, a few favorites with me and my best friend, who was with me, we were about 14th row up on Jerrys side, Im trying as hard as I can to list the pluses, always glad to have gone to a show., tho.

This was a total mail-in job. I think most of understand the risks and rewards of the Dead's approach- some nights are definately way, way better than others. however, this was one of the few nights where they didn't even seem to try. Not very cool to some poor soul who might only catch one show a year.

I'm with GrapefruitHead and Lobster12 on this one. There is no reason to download this show unless you were there and need to ruin the memory of a fun time. The sound quality isn't bad, just the listless performance. The '95 tour had very few high points and this isn't one of them.

Sorry Birmingham folks, but you basically got the finger on this one.

Those of us who were in the audience had a great time at this show. This was the "arty, dissonant" show, with lots of nice, cranky space. The show on the next night I consider to be Jerry's last happiest show - a smiling "That Would Be Something" and endless ecstatic riffing on the Caribbean "Matilda" - a joy from start to finish, and ending with a glorious "Morning Dew". 4 stars for this one and 5+ for April 5th - from the point of view of the audience, not the recording.

Although I agree yhis show was a step down from Memphis run I didn't think at the time that it was bad as every seems to think. This aud isn't the greatest record of the show unfortunately.

I sometimes look for train wrecks(like the Brent meltdown in the mid 80's) so i took a dabble and man you guys are right on. 95 was bad, and this is a prime example. I can only imagine what those Meadowlands shows are like based on those reviews.

Something must be in the water in AL for sure. 4/4 was one of the worst shows of the year, and that's saying something.

This was the first of my only 2 GD shows, and I must say, it smokes. Something in the water down here in AL either got to 'em or maybe it was being in AL for the first time since the 70's. I've heard alot of 95 dead, and this B'ham run is still as good as I remember it. I am biased, but this show def deserves the dl for the whole 2nd set, but it's night 2 in birmingham that deserves the attention ;-) I really give this show 4 1/2 stars, with the deduction only for the talking in quiet parts, not for the band. A great recording of a great show.
